We are pleased to announce our support of the East San Gabriel Valley Japanese Community Center in our first round of grants awarded this Fall, 2016. Our multi-year grant will be used to expand the Senior Wellness Program to give seniors more opportunities to engage in activities that promote both their physical and mental well-being.
The mission of the East San Gabriel Valley Japanese Community Center, Inc. is to foster and preserve the cultural heritage unique to those of Japanese American ancestry and to serve the community through social services, artistic, recreational and educational programs.
In June of 2010, they began the Senior Wellness Program which provides weekly activities for seniors. Each game or craft is designed to increase hand-eye coordination and memory and they also included a weight training area, which gives seniors the chance to use hand weights and stretch bands to increase strength and mobility.
Our grant will enable East San Gabriel Valley Japanese Community Center to expand the Senior Wellness Program from one day a week to at least two days a week. In addition grant monies will be used to address vital nutritional needs with hot lunches provided at every meeting and to purchase a vehicle that will increase program accessibility and address isolation prevention.
