Kimochi to expand Senior Meal Services to San Mateo County

We are pleased to announce our support of Kimochi’s San Mateo Home delivered meal service. Our grant will enable Kimochi to expand their 46 years of experience providing congregate and home delivered meal services to San Mateo County.

The mission of Kimochi, Inc. is “to provide a continuum of culturally sensitive programs and services to all seniors and their families to preserve their dignity and independence, with a focus on the Japanese American and Japanese speaking community.” Their goal is to provide these targeted seniors with structured activities and programs that will improve their quality of life, and postpone or prevent their need for institutionalize care.

In 1974 Kimochi became the first minority agency in San Francisco to receive funding from the California Department of Aging to implement an ethnic Nutrition and Hot Meals program. Today, they offer Japanese and Asian style home delivered meals five days a week to approximately 130 unduplicated seniors annually.  With this grant, a new home delivered meals program will be housed at Kimochi’s new facility in San Mateo, where there is currently no home delivered meal provider for Japanese seniors.

This home delivery meal program also serves as a daily wellness check, and can serve as an access point for seniors to connect to additional resources.
