Our fund will Palo Alto Players’ project is to share a story that powerfully inspires, entertains, and enriches our community. Palo Alto Players’ production of ALLEGIANCE will be the Bay Area Peninsula premiere, inviting new audiences to participate in a story of significant societal relevance. The show movingly captures the rarely-told narratives of the Japanese American experience during a pivotal time in American history, when deeply human, cross-generational stories unfolded before a backdrop of international conflict, economic change, and evolving American identity—not unlike the world in which we currently live. They will be presenting local artists who make up their diverse community, yet are not fully represented on the modern theatrical stage. When ALLEGIANCE opened on Broadway in 2015, it saw only a brief four-month run and did not have a national tour; by opening our 90th anniversary season with this show, Palo Alto Players will be expanding the reach of these important stories and sparking crucial conversations within our community.
