Our grant will be used for helping complete the digitization of the Pacific Citizen archives.

The Pacific Citizen is national newspaper published by the Japanese American Citizen League (JACL) since 1929. This project will transfer the newspaper’s archival data from microfilm into an OCR (optical character recognition) digital copy, which will then be transferred onto a digital archives file that will be hosted on the Pacific Citizen website.

There are 90 years of history that needs to be digitally documented so that all can have access to important history of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. The JACL and Pacific Citizen turn 90 in 2019, and preserving its history and legacy is the key to sustaining its future.

You can find more information about the Pacific Citizen here.
